I have been considering treating the Nissan 240SX to a new set of shock
absorbers for next season. God knows I'm going to need them running in G
Stock with all them turbots and ACR Neons and such.
Anyway, while at the SEMA Show I did some research by talking to the shock
companies in attendnace.
Koni Sports. The fronts require cutting off the top of the strut and
drilling a hole in the bottom to mount the insert. (I know, I know it's
legal. Mark Chiles saw to that, but I still have problems with allowing the
modification of an OEM part as a means of accomplishing a legal allowance.
That's always been a no no.) I also didn't like the fact that you have to
take the rear shocks off the car to adjust the rebound. Call me lazy I
guess.
KYB-AGH. I like the medthod of adjustment, front and back, but everybody
here on Team.Net seems to hate them, and has recommended against them.
GAB-HP. Mama Strano has suggested these as the way to go. The price for a
set of four is simply stunning. Yoi!
Tokico. For some reason (the factory people told me it was a law suit)
Tokico doesn't offer the Illumina for my car. I suppose I could live with
the HP's and save some money.
Now here is my question to the assembled Netters: I came upon a
Nissan/Toyota specialist shop offering an adjustable shock called the
Tokico HTS. I assume that they are importing them directly from Japan.
These shocks are painted bright red. They claim to be 45 way adjustable via
the center of the shock rod like the Illumina. They also claim that these
are the shocks that sedan racers use in Japan if they aren't allowed to go
to coil overs.
Has anyone on the Net had any experience with these shocks, or run them on
your autocross car? Are they stock length, and do they really have that
range of adjustment? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
