To answer the local solo vee driver (and other readers) a little deeper...

The PRI show is an annual trade show put on by Performance Racing Industry
magazine. The magazine, and the show, is keyed to and focuses on the
*industry* of racing. Basically it gathers together as many manufacturers of
products and suppliers of services that it can, and puts them into the RCA
Dome and Indiana Convention Center. Imagine so many booths and exhibitors
that it would cover the area of about five football fields! 2,650 booths!
1100 exhibitors. Seminars, Industry roundatables, Gasoline Alley tours, etc.

And then it invites the *industry* to attend -- primarily retailers who
actually end up selling the stuff. These manufacturers and retailers are the
prime focus.

Here's the catch:
1. Admission is FREE.
2. You can't get in. Not unless you are a retailer, engine builder,
fabricator, machine shop, distributor or wholesaler of racing stuff, jobber,
manufacturer, ad agency, media, race track operator, or representing a
professional race team.

It is, indeed, the candy store for racers. The place is jam-crowded, so they
try not to have it also populated by race fans and hobby racers. Some get
in, of course, but the credentialing process is somewhat detailed to try to
hold that down.

I've been writing for them a number of years, and this year my assignment
for the show issue (November) was a story on "how to do the show" from the
point of view of several who attend regularly. So I thought it was probably
about time I "did" the show myself so I'd have a better idea of what I was
writing about.

The magazine, BTW, is a gorgeous, thick, slick-paper monthly publication.
Most of the articles have to do with how to be an effective retailer, or
about aspects of motorsport from the manufacturing and retailing point of
view. It is not tech articles and such, nor is it race reports. However, the
ad support in the magazine is massive and it may be worth the serious
racer's time and money just for that alone. A "thin" issue is nearly 200
pages, and the show issue can double that. They also put out an annual
Buyer's Guide of nearly 400 pages.

Subscriptions are $25/year. Please note that I am a freelancer writing for
them. I am not staff. I get nothing for "peddling" the magazine. In fact,
PRI has no clue I am even posting this. So I hope this is not read as spam.
Rather, it is information not readily available from other sources. You keep
hearing about the PRI Show. This is what it comes from.

The subscription form is rather detailed. It asks for name, title, company
(your race team?), mailing address, phone and fax numbers, a Visa/MasterCard
number (or enclose a check).

Then it asks you to check your "Type of business" and the choices are:
A - Performance retailer (speed shop, race shop)
B - Racing & Custom Engine Builder
C - Fabricator
D - Machine Shop
E - Off-Road Specialist
F - Racing Association Member (car owner, driver or mechanic)
G - Manufacturer's Rep.
M - Manufacturer [yes, M, not H]
I - Distributor/Wholesaler
J - Ad Agency

Most on this list would fit under F if not one of the others.
