Charlie:
Here's what Ron Katano had posted on Wednesday, on the Evolution list. His
post is perhaps the best justification for making an announcement like that,
as soon as possible.
>>>Well, if others in grid knew, then other competitors knew, so the event
was already tainted. Your runs were no more important than others'.
Fact is, yes, 15 minutes could have made a difference if you had a friend or
loved one in the upper floors of the WTC, or on the last hijacked plane, and
he/she was trying to call you from a cell phone in the last minutes of their
life. Did that happen to anyone... I can't know. Probably not, but the point
is that with a tragedy this large, and so many people at the event, I felt
certain that someone, even if it's just one person, was going to be touched
by this personally. That person has a right to know *immediately* what's
going on. I was furious that NO announcement was made on the south course at
all.
I wasn't going to say anything since I felt the event staff did such a great
job putting the event back together under terrible circumstances, but this
thread has got me upset. Nationals or not, it's just a stupid autocross -
Matt did the right thing.

You forced 1/2 of a group to make their 3rd (and final) runs under a
considerable mental black cloud. Our "100%" was affected by your
announcement, on what became our last run of the event. Had we been
able to
mentally process this, and have runs on the second course under the
same
conditions as those who had already made all 3 under optimal mental
conditions, that 3rd run on the North course might not have mattered
"as
much." Whether we got 3 runs or 6, you took our (most 2nd drivers
in BP and
DSP) final runs on 1 course and affected our mental outlook. I
wouldn't have
made the announcement until between the run groups. In fact, I
considered
mentioning it when I went to announce 3rd South, and didn't. Soon,
we were
putting a car out every 15 seconds and there was no time.
