Hi Jackie -
Welcome to the world of autocrossing! You're gonna love it! Mid-October,
huh? Even that far south, that is near the end of the season I believe -
as in you won't find many autocrosses between then and Spring (yeah, yeah,
in San Diego they go year round). In the Atlanta area I typically only get
2 in November, one in Dec (chattanooga), and then nothing until Feb.
Back to my advice - just go out and drive. Do as many autocrosses as you
can, beyond what the local club runs. Drive several hours to get to
events.
Talk to experienced folks. Be a passenger, have them as passengers in your
car. It is tough to do, but let some good drivers drive your car now and
then, with you as a passenger. All of my "breakthroughs" have come from
this.
Then, when you have some driving under your belt, take one of the Evolution
courses. They travel around the country visiting various clubs. One day
courses, to polish off the rough edges. Best to do this in your own car,
in my opinion (though some folks do fly in and do them in rental cars), so
you need to check the schedule (search autocross evolution schedule).
Then, once you are at an intermediate skill level you can start thinking
about finding someone to help you personally. Though this is tough to
find, and hardest is getting a parking lot, timer, and cones. One location
"near" you does wonderful events - Ozark/Dothan in southern Alabama.
Second Sunday of each month - I think through November? Check with them.
At one of these events, you can easily get 20 or more runs, compared to the
4 you will get at most clubs.
I would NOT take any of the other schools out there - Panoz, Skip Barber,
etc. Too far away from the autocrossing skills. I just took a rally
course (yes, off road) in north central Florida - but that was to help me
with a single skill.

Hi
I have never autocrossed and am planning on entering my first event in mid
October. I have a Mercedes SLK32 AMG.
I would like to find a school or a trainer in my area that could show me
the basic techniques of autocrossing and accident avoidance etc. I would
like to learn how to best take advantage of what the cat can offer.
I am in Brunswick, Ga which is on the coast, midway between Savannah, Ga
and Jacksonville Fl.
Any help would be appreciated
Jackie
