Dennis,
If your story is true then a competitor that would like to
DQ you based on your roll bar/Cage has no basis for a
protest. A car such as yours requires, as a minimum, 1.5"
x .095 DOM tubing. The key is that this is a minimum tube
size. We have a legal EP car in the MIdWest divison that
uses 1.75 x .125 DOM tubing though out. This cage is way
over built and heavy but the car passes a Regional and a
National annual inspection.
The other point that you raised is that all tubes in
a GCR cage must be of the same diameter and wall
thickness; this is not true in a Production/GT car. Only
Improved Turning (IT) cars have this requirement. Your
car is a combination of Production and GT, not IT.
My CP car has 2.0" x .125, 1.75 x .095, 1.5 x .125,
1.5 x .095, 1.25 x .095 etc. tubing in it. The required
tubes meet or exceed the diameters and thicknesses
listed for a GT1 car under 3000 LBS. Any thing else
uses thinner/smaller tubing to save wieght. This car has
and will pass a Solo I inspection with requires that my car
have GT1 cage.
If you question my answer please check the GCR, the above
has been true for at least the last 5 years. Or you could
check with the national office. Never take the word of a
fellow competitor.....same as a wooden Nickel!
