The rollbar issues are often subjects not of safety
concerns but just excuses for mean spiritness. In the
name of competitive some folks just use any excuse to
disqualify the competition, especially if they can't
beat them straight up.
Personally, I had a long foolishness with the roll bar
and cage in my EP class 510. The car requires neither
a rollbar nor cage as it is a sedan. But I wanted
more. So I put in a roll bar. A book legal 2" x .120"
Autopower rollbar. Ran it like that for years, no
problem. Then I wanted a full cage. Built it from the
legal 1 1/2" stuff but used the former bar hoop as the
basis. A big no no, the CGR required ALL the same
diameter tubing! Overbuilt was a no no. Local
"competitor" Komush quickly pointed this out and
threatened to DQ me any time I may beat him, with
assurance his buddy Mr Davis would back him up as if a
local autocross were Nationals.
I understand this "loophole" has been closed but the
attitudes remain....... And driving 2000 miles to
autocross with such "safety" concerns so prevalent is
a really tough sell.
The "enforcements" are historically very selective on
such matters. And the issues are seldom out of any
real concern for another's safety! To be sure Mr
Komush could care less about another's safety!
Bah.
