Dry weather prevailed on Sunday. A slight overcast kept temperatures
reasonable through most of the morning, but by noon the skies cleared and the
sun was bearing down in full furnace mode. Except for a 30 minute delay to
pick up the broken u-joint pieces from Fast Phil Currin's BSP Corvette, the
event proceeded smoothly on the final day and we completed trophy
presentations by 3:30pm.
The EVOLUTION - KUMHO TIRE Team Challenge pax-based competition proved to be
the highlight of the event with 12 teams vying for the top spot. Maybe
having a $3400 payout on the line had something to do with all the intense
interest; maybe. Several competitors took advantage of being allowed to
participate on two teams and doubled their financial pleasure. When the dust
settled and the downed cones were counted, the mean-green was distributed to
the following wallets:
1st, $600; K. Rupp, T. Crowley, C. Moore, R. Heiser; 448.064
2nd, $500; T. Kotzian, R. Cone, C. Cone, S. Hoelscher; 448.420
3rd, $400; K. Rupp, T. Schultz, J.B. Howell, B. Bryan-Tinsley; 454.768
4th, $340; T. Schultz, T. Pulliam, S. Waters, B. Bryan-Tinsley; 455.609
5th, $320; D. Lanca, L. Kent, L. Kent, B. Flanigan; 458.134
6th, $280; A. Aberson, A. Aberson, J.B. Howell, C. McMahan; 459.693
7th; $240; M. Berg, J. Darrow, T. Pulliam, E. Harvey; 461.188
8th; $200; T. Kotzian, E. Foerschler, J. Darrow, M. Dana; 466.148
9th; $160; J. Kinser-Dana, S. Minehart, J. Minehart, S. Minehart; 466.151
10th; $140; M. Berg, L. Pulliam, K. Berg, R. Shafer; 467.509
11th; $120; G. Wadleigh, D. Chadwick, J. Onks, E. Pulliam; 472.87
12th; $100; M. Dana, J. Kinser-Dana, S. Kaufman, E. Harvey; 474.223
The EDWARDS & EDWARDS CONSULTING Rookie Challenge competition was just as
exciting with 44 SEDiv Solo2 rookies battling it out for the top spots. The
standings shifted around quite a bit on Sunday. After the PAX was applied
the top 5 Rookie Challenge trophy winners are:
1st, Mark Berg, SS, 2000 C5 Corvette; 112.862
2nd, Tom Crowley, STS, 2000 Subaru Impreza; 113.532
3rd, Tony Schultz, STS, 1996 Nissan 240SX; 114.453
4th, Mathew Tremmel, GS, 1994 BMW 325is; 114.917
5th, Scott Minehart, FJr2, Tony/Honda Mitox; 115.262
Of course all of the above was based on the regular SEDiv Solo2 class
competition. We had a total of 130 drivers competing in 40 Solo2 classes
this weekend, resulting in 59 trophy winners. It will probably take us
several days before the results are posted on the SEDiv Solo2 website. We'll
make an announcement when they're up.
I'd like to express my sincere thanks not only to the Middle Georgia &
Atlanta Regions for making this event go both timely and smoothly, but also
to all the various individuals who went beyond the call of duty and did more
than their fair share. As the Evolution-Kumho Team Challenge emphasizes,
it's the combined efforts of each team member that determines how well the
team finishes. So if you enjoyed this past weekend in Perry, GA give
yourself a pat on the back. The SEDiv Solo2 team couldn't have done it
without you.
