Buddy-

A few years ago, I did the "Driving 101" thing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The cars are the size and shape of CART racers, but powered by Chevy V8,
highly modified, stock block engines. (Can you say "NASCAR"?) We got a
classroom lecture, a tour of the "racing line" we were to use via driving
around the course in a van with the instructors, and then did eight hot
laps in the cars, following the instructors. My best lap was a 142 mph
average, crawling by CART or IRL standards, but it felt like barely
sub-sonic speeds to me, with my little helmeted head out there in the wind.

That track got AWFUL narrow going into the corners. The "course" was
marked with dots on the pavement which kept us near the center of the
track. Looking at it from the pits, it looked like a LONG way from our
line to the wall. From the cockpit, it looked like that wall was looming
up over my head, about to break over me like a wave...

(SPAM mode set to 10) The trip was sponsored by our good friends at North
American Pylon. Driving 101 was having "Media Day" and Miss Pat Kelly
convinced 'em I was a "Media" even though we all know I'm an "Extra Large!"

If you're ever in Lost Wages and got 300 bucks in your pocket, forget the
slots or blackjack. Go to LVMS and do Driving 101. Trust me, it's worth
it!
