Tow Vehicle Question

After putting another unnecessary 600 miles on my Elise this weekend, I've
decided to start towing to events far from home.  Not ever having done this
before, my question is this:

What sort of relatively inexpensive vehicle would be appropriate for pulling an
open trailer with about 1500 lbs of car?  My only other car is an MX-5 and I
don't think she's up for the job.
