Every region should realize that it is only a matter of time before
they start seeing an increase in the Street Touring crowd as a direct
relation to the increasing popularity of the sport compact car scene.
Just look at the magazine section at any Borders/Barnes&Noble and you
see the auto section littered with sport compact specific titles --
Max Power (US and UK versions - UK version is more fun), Sport
Compact Car, Import Tuner, Turbo & Hi Tech Performance, etc.

At our first event in Chicago Region last weekend we had:

SM 18 entrants (not exclusive to sport compact scene, but most
cars in this class were sport compact based)
ST-S 16 entrants
ST-R 2 entrants

Our total number of entrants was 140, so participation in the "newer"
classes was just over 25%.

Also, there were an additional 39 entrants in our Street Tire Classes
(some of whom will be moving to Street Touring soon as they start
modifying their vehicles).

Note: We use TS and TR to designate STS and STR respectively as to
not confuse timing/corner workers. We use ST for all Street Tire
classed entrants.
