Excellent advice and info as usual John. I want to clarify something
however. The initial poster on this subject mentioned nothing about
safety. This conversation always seem to unexplainably migrate towards
the safety aspect, despite the intent of the original poster. This is
all good, but off the point.

I believe the point of bringing this up was not that the course was in
any way unsafe, but that it tends to provide an advantage competitivly
to those who are fortunate to have a large lot locally. Most clubs have
the "postage stamp" variety, and the design of a wide open and "fast"
course brings new elements that they are not accustomed to. This leads
to the discussion about what an AX course should look like. He wasn't
whining, nor was it complaining about safety. Simply giving food for
thought when considering course designs and what today's autocross
course is supposed to look like in order to remain true to the
definition of "autocrossing". Thanks!

Pat
