I don't remember who asked, but here's some info from Wichita Region:
We currently have no Novice class. Tried it last year, it failed
miserably. People tend to frown on PAX classes... especially Novices who
don't understand the PAX at all.
This year, we offered STS (we call it ST) and an "open" version of STS with
no tire size limits or vehicle eligibility requirements (Street Open).
Stats for the year so far (11 Regional events in the heart of Doodah):
Total number of competitors: 749
Total number of ST drivers: 91
Total number of SO drivers: 43
Average number of competitors: 68
Average number of ST drivers: 8 (6 are club members)
Average number of SO drivers: 4 (4 are club members)
Average percentage of ST drivers: 12.15%
Average percentage of SO drivers: 5.74%
Peak number of ST drivers: 14 of 136 (10.29%)
Peak number of SO drivers: 7 of 85 (8.24%)
Peak percentage of ST drivers: 25.00% (7 of 28)
Peak percentage of SO drivers: 8.24% (7 of 85)
Taking out the highest and lowest attended events (136 and 28) changes the
total percentages to ST: 11.97 and SO: 5.81.
Taking out the highest and lowest percentage of ST drivers (25% and 5.71%)
changes the total percentages to ST: 11.95 and SO: 5.98.
Overall, I'd say we have a pretty solid 12% STS class plus another 6% in an
open street tire class.
