DSP Escort...anybody?

I have inherited a pretty nice but mechanically challenged, 1987 Ford
Escort 1.9l, 2 door, hatchback.  I have had some ideas about repairing it
and bringing it up to DSP specs.  Is there anyone on the list with
experience with these?  Knowledge of performance parts suppliers, tricks
and tips?
