Today it is official - in spite of the perennial emcee switching
tires, and the
(current) lack of a sponsor (BFG politely declined, given the above) the
2000 version of the Nationals Talent Show will be Thursday night during
our week in Topeka.
History: Given that only 62(!) if the 1000+ expected participants
will leave
Topeka with 1st place trophies, and given that every driver and
spectator
in the place has SOME hidden talent, the show was created to recognize
those who may not drive the absolute best, or have the latest/greatest
car.
This thing has been going on since 1987(?) and has created my fondest
Nationals memories:
Pat Washburn's songs, with a great musical back-up. . . . . .
Phil Ethier's Pylon Dance
Matt Murray's Top Ten Lists
GH & Danielle with violin/piano duet
The 'Real' RJ's comedy sketches
Mari Clement's dress (can't recall what she did, however)
Jimmy Stewart singing
Charlie Davis 'Huck & Chuck' t-shirts, and the annual meeting sketch
Joe Goeke and his annual videos
Bryan Kinser's video
John Lee's Cajun stories
Bob Strange'annual stand-up entry - finally winning in 1999!
Rich Fletcher's songs
The Talent Show Band
John Banks
Bev Vach
Bryon Short
Ginna Blair
Davie Looman
the annual Team.Net act
. . . . . and about a hundred more.
This show, like autocrossing, is NOT a spectator event. Its success
depends on the efforts of the participants. So let the creative
juices flow, remembering of course that PG-13 is about the limit of
good taste.
Clearly for 2000, the SM crowd needs to demonstrate their desire
to be a part of the Nationals by being a part of Thursday's
entertainment.
Mari Clements has promised a reprise. One of the un-official DTN
requirements
is to participate.
Who else will volunteer?
Contact me for a reserved spot on the stage, and to co-ordinate the
necessary
props. . . . . . . .
