Adam,
Read the supplemental rules for Nats on the SCCA website. You need special
dispensation from the powers that be to change your work assignment to a
non-race day.
You are lucky, however, in that you can work on Tues/Wed on courses. I did
this at my last nationals when CP ran Thurs/Fri. So on Tues/Wed, I spent 6
extra heats just working course. I'd pick out a corner where the incident
reports showed cone carnage, and I'd volunteer to the course chief to work
that corner. No one ever refused an extra worker. In fact, if you want to
be a real saint, you can replace another worker if they beg loud enough, just
kidding.
Watching the hot course I really found the places where I could drive faster
than it looked when I walked.
So even if you can't get out of your work assignment on your run days, DO
work a few corners on your non-run days. It could shave some time off your
runs.
