Most non-Pro courses I run usually have a turn between the start line and
the timing lights.  For me, it usually isn't worth it to launch hard, then
slam on the brakes to negotiate the turn before the lights.  Sometimes it's
not necessary either; I just go for maximizing my exit speed from that turn
so I have a good start going through the lights.
