How about a new approach to classing cars. This would take some time & isn't
the most practical, but would likely be as fair as you can get.
Have the SEB evaluate each model of car(starting w/the most popular &
competitive) in a magazine-style test, only with the cars set up for
autocross(tires, struts, alignment, etc.). Compare data for 0-60, 60-0, 60ft
slalom, skidpad(possibly 2 diameters) and speeds in first 3 gears.
Award points for each category. Example: 0-60 range on most cars being
autocrossed fall within the 4.5-8.0 second range(guessing). 4.5 to 8.0 is 3.5
seconds, so have a point range of 350 to 0(4.5 being 350). If faster cars
become available, increase the maximum points(I doubt slower cars will become
either more competitive or popular).
Since, in general, faster cars will be faster in most categories, total all
catagories so the cars within a range of about 25 TOTAL points would be
together.
Of course, I'm sure this wouldn't be perfect either. But it would at least be
based upon hard facts.
