In the spirit of debating the advantages of map availability only to
those with Internet access, or who are friends/acquaintences of the
priviledged, or live in a town with a school or library having Internet
access (isn't that why my phone bill went up a couple years ago?), I
think the following Unfair Advantages should be outlawed:
1. Cable TV. You folks with cable TV have an advantage of being able to
check out the Weather Channel any time you want. I have to wait until
the morning/evening news comes on. And what about people with no TV?
Surely there must be some of those pitiful disadvantaged folks who'd be
in the trophies if it weren't for that!
2. Motor Homes. Especially those with satellite dishes (see #1). I
usually camp at Nats. Sure, I have a color TV in the van, but you have
airconditioning, pets, and on-site showers!
3. Folks with tire sponsorships. In prior years I observed the chosen
few pull over to the BFD truck and have them mount a whole set of full
tread tires when the skies opened up. Some for free, some at nominal
cost. And who is REALLY paying for those tires? BFD may not have
contract drivers any more, but I see a lot of posts from folks wanting
to co-drive a car on a specified brand. Hmmm. Others of us have to buy
'em, load 'em (OH, MY BACK!), haul 'em, plus the cost of the extra set
of wheels. Obviously, this is an Unfair Advantage!
4. OK, let's just include any sponsorship. Of anything. Cash or
product.
5. Byron Short. He understands Geez better than all of us put together.
Tell me that's not an advantage! I saw we outlaw anyone related to
him... Will anyone admit to being his friend? Let's boot them, too!
They probably talk about Geez and driving techniques when they get
together.
6. Geez. Oh, we've already debated that. See the team.net archives.
7. Vides cameras. Debated that, too!
8. Spouses who like attending autocrosses. Less stress... or whatever!
9. Warm-up events at the facility on the day/week/month... before the
"big" event. What's the purpose of these events, if it isn't to provide
"some" with an advantage?
10. Those who've attended Evolution Schools, Barber Schools, Petty
Schools, or elementary schools. Can you read the sups? Fill out the
entry blank? Fax your entry? Have a credit card? Type? YER OUTTA HERE,
BUDDY!
Yes, if anyone can make a case against it, I say we OUTLAW it. Separate
the "haves" from the "have nots". What have I missed?
