Swift DB-1 Formula Ford. Tested by Road & Track in March 1984. 4 speed transmission geared for 116 mph top speed at power peak of 6500 rpm Test Weight: 1115 # Rated HP (1.6 liter ff engine) 114, Rated torque 105 (a little low by current standards) Tires: Road Racing slicks 0 - 60 mph: 4.6 seconds (with a 49 mph first and a 71 mph second gear) (third was a 94 mph gear) 1/4 mile: 12.6 seconds at 110 mph They didn't do 60 ft times but the 100 ft time was 2.8 seconds. No reaction time info. My car at the Pro Solo practice starts "60 ft" times best ever was 1.762 at Peru in 1999 with EXCELLENT traction. "Normal" is just under 2.0 with tire spin and a 45 mph first gear, on slicks. Note that in 1984 R&T "only" got a skid pad G level of 1.280 which was a record at the time (and much below what current tires would allow). The R&T slalom speed was 72.2 . . . another record. 60 - 0 stop: 84 feet 80 - 0: 141 feet Normal Assumed FF top speed with Road Atlanta gearing: 140 mph in those days. Don't know what they turn now. Remember, these are open wheel cars. Dick Rasmussen CM 85 85 Van Diemen RF-85 Formula Ford |
