I've run 225/50/14 BFG R1s on OEM 14x6 '95 Miata alloys this past season.
They rub the sway-bar/upper fender at full-lock. I found out if you spin and
permit the tires to go full-lock on you, you'll be replacing tires. (I got
lucky.. Very used R1s and it happened on the last run/event of the season..
<g>) The depth of the grooves do suggest my laziness here would destroy a
205 too..
These were my first 'R' tires but I felt other Miatas I tried with 205s were
slightly easier to drive.. More precise and sharper turn-in. 225s have
slightly more grip overall but it probably isn't worth the trade-off. I run
w/o PS and the 225s are great exercise. :)
