I really enjoy watching the older cars compete myself. The best race I
remember working corners there was a complete group of classic cars running
a regional event in La Junta CO. about 16 years ago. There was a small
block Cobra, 67 Corvette big block coupe, Yenko corvair, Yenko Camaro, an
older Ferrai, and a real old A sports racer. It was a hoot and it wasn't a
vintage race. So lets instigate three more classes for the people who enjoy
the classics. I have no interest myself I sold my GT-6. Classic "A",
V-8's, 25 years and older, and Classics "B" 6 cyl, 25 years and older, and
Classic "C", 4 cyl, 25 years and older. I know I want no more classes
myself but autocross events are the safest auto competition sport there is
and maybe just maybe some of the real classics would come out of hiding to
compete. Better than just rusting away in some rich investors garage. Yes
this may not be the exact story of this thread but it is my two cents of a
positive idea, I hope I didn't bore anyone.

Subject: Re: Conquest to GS
Unfortunately, that philosophy will increase the generic nature of
autocrossing. Neons in D, Miatas in B, Celicas in E, etc. Why not
take a little time annually and move the cars that most people can
agree could benefit from the move without becoming class killers,
e.g. SVOs, Conquests, Supra Turbos (ooops, where'd THAT come
from?), Alfas, RX-7s.......
Some of the best cars may be old (ahem, vintage) and/or rare, why
bury them when they might have a chance at the local or regional
level in a slower (more appropriate) class?
All IMO,
