CalClub also has a "club" oriented organization like SF and used to do the
same thing, workers were provided by the sponsoring club and they did not
get to run that event, but got their points average for that event. And
usually got to play some after the event was over. The profits from the
event went to the club who used it however they saw fit. Some would use it
to pay for members entries in other events or SCCA renewal or for equipment
for the club to use. One problem was the smaller clubs could not come up
with enough workers. It was a long fight when we decided to go to work/run
events, but over all I think it worked out for the best. Another positive
about working the course is many folks find it a good way to observe up
close how others drive specific parts of the course. Also CalClub sets our
run groups so you only have to be there for 1/2 a day if you chose.
