<<Is the intercooler considered part of the engine/turbo combo for
the purposes of update/backdate? Or is the intercooler unrestricted
cuz it's part of the intake?>>
The intercooler itself is totally open. Run whatever you can fit. BUT and
this is a big one. NO mods can be made to bodywork to fit it. Alot of kits
require chopping holes in plastic or metal panels to get the piping in. There
is no allowance for this. It is a weeny protest, but one that would probably
win. When I ran SP in a turbo (87 GrandAm 2.0L 8 valve turbo) car, I resorted
to putting the intercooler in place of the stock battery location (trunk
mounted the battery) and ran an air duct from the grilll to the holes behind
the headlight assembly. I also later added a 10 inch radiator fan behind the
intercooler core to pull more air through. It worked. 0-60 time fell from 7.5
to 6.8 with just the intercooler. With a bigger exhaust, an extra injector,
and advanced ignition timing, I got it down to 5.6 seconds, not bad for front
drive. And still running a cat.
