While cleaning out my mailbox, I ran across your post. I was going to
respond earlier and never got to it.
I run the 9.5x20x13 cantilevers in a 210 compound (pretty soft) on an
EP Pinto at about 2000 LBs on a 7 inch wheel (max allowed). I run between
26 and 30 pounds of pressure and my main problem is I wear the inside
off. At the last event I actually corded the inside of the RF. A friend
has the same problem with them on a 1200 LB Lotus 7. Your 18 LBs sounds
WAY too low for a FWD car. In my case the casing seems to distort and
overload the inside edge of the tire. The wear pattern around the
inside edge makes it appear that it is distorting like a wrinkle-wall
drag slick. Another club member with a 1400LB Lotus Elan is having better
wear with the Hoosier cantilevers. I haven't bought a set of any kind new
yet, so can't comment on what that would be like. I have considered using
a narrower cantilever or possibly a straight wall design to eliminate
the weird wear pattern. It seems that the tire couldn't be working
to maximum if it is distorted.
