I was about to say much the same thing, so I won't echo what you've
already said. Even though you've only been autocrossing for 16 months
and I've been autocrossing (poorly!) for nearly 14 years, we still
share many of the same ideas. But I would like to add two additional
thoughts.
First, I was one of the earlier people to sign up for Mike B's Team
Laughing Stock. Why? Because it signifies my philosophy about this
sport. I do it for the fun of it. I don't care to get involved with
all the bickering, protests, name-calling, politics, and other BS that
some of our fellow competitors seem to delight in. Sure, it's nice to
win every time. But, to me, it's more important to have fun and to
share in the camaraderie that the SCCA offers.
Second, for those of you who have a beef with a particular board or
committee, please step back for a moment and look at the overall
picture. Those of us who, collectively, serve on the SCCA Field Staff
(that's all of the appointed boards and committees) do so
voluntarily. We don't get reimbursed for our expenses. We volunteer
our time. We serve, usually, because we've been asked to do so. But,
sometimes, we serve because we want to play a more active role in the
SCCA and we volunteer for an available position. If you don't agree
with the way a particular board or committee is operating, I would
strongly suggest you make it known that you'd like to be a member of
that board or committee the next time there's an opening! Maybe then
you'll get a better perspective of the way things really work in this
organization.
Sure, the SCCA isn't perfect. NO organization is. But no
organization gets better unless those who really care about its
success play an active role in making it better. And playing an
active role doesn't mean b*tching everytime you disagree with a
decision. It means getting involved in the decision-making process!!!
BTW, Steve. Thanks again to you and John and Tom and everybody else
in the Mississippi Region who helped make the Meridian NT such a
smashing success!
