Why try to reinvent the wheel (pun INTENDED)?

One Original (TM) PAX index, an additional (or two or three) class(es) for
all the street tire drivers.

We, in the AZ Region, split our street tire classes (and Novice classes) in
two by using a "profile" to separate the multiple classes

Does a Miata driver (newbie or not) feel it's fair to run against a
Corvette? No.

Does a Corvette driver want to get beat by a Neon? No.

So, put all the "like" profile cars in their own group. Corvette people
understand that a Porsche MAY beat them. Is it fair to the Neon driver to
get beat by the Porsche too? No. (*and* the reverse. Egos are a very
fragile thing you know)

The Ladies that run in each only number a handful or less, so we have only
offered one Street Tire Ladies and one Novice Ladies class.

Soooo, take all the "traditional" high horse, rwd cars/classes and separate
them from the "others"

Therefore SS, AS (Porsche, M3 class), FS, ASP, BSP, ESP, Prepared and Mod
are "1"

Others; BS, CS, DS, ES, GS, HS, CSP, DSP are "2"

So, it kinda goes like this:

See that Honda? ok, it's a "2".

See that Corvette? That's a "1"

The only problem *I* see is as follows...

See that Camaro...which is it? A 1 or a 2? OK, see that *QUIET* Camaro
(V6), that's a 2 (The noisy ones are a "1")
________
We've decided that the local events are SUPPOSED to give out lots of
trophies, therefore we added more classes.

Did the "open" classes suffer? Yes, to an extent. But then, we've always
had several one or two car classes.

Did we "keep" more people? Yes. Less "frustrated" entrants. Our ST2 class
had the highest number of qualifiers.

This season series that just ended last week saw 80 people (total) that
qualified by attending 3 or more of the 4 events.

44 trophies given, 6 single car (qualifiers) classes, 6 (2) car
(qualifiers) classes.

Our "split" street tire and novice classes totalled 28 qualifiers/16
trophies over 6 classses (ST1, ST2, NV1, NV2, and a combined Street Tire
Ladies and a Novice Ladies).

Formula for trophies:
1 for one or two qualifiers
2 for 3 or 4
3 for 5 or 6
4 for 7 or 8
etc.

The idea is to give away trophies to reward those that: Did well, and: Made
the events.

It's been a pretty successful program.
