slicks vs. DOT tires

Would slicks work on a heavy (3500 lb) ESP car?  Since most CP cars are
much lighter than that and run insanely wide (12") wheels, I wonder
whether ESP cars with 9-10" wheels _could_ run slicks without really
cutting up/overheating them.

Has anyone ever seen a heavy car respond well to slicks?  All of the
underprepared CP cars out there (ESP cars with SFCs for example) that I've
seen are on DOT tires.
