Even though we really don't expect to need it in autocross, would you want
to possibly degrade the materials in the helmet and liner by putting it in a
dishwasher?

I would recommend working in a strong solution of non-scented dish washing
liquid through the soft pads and any porous surfaces in the helmet.

I think that Formula 409 or Dow bathroom cleaner would do an even better job
of removing skin oils and other yuccy stuff, but the last trace amounts of
them left in the helmet may drive you crazy from the scent.

There are a number of laundry products that are generally safe for clothes
and should be safe for the helmet materials which claim to remove oils and
perspiration.

If you can get it close to clean, then you might want to try one of the
fabric odor removers.
