classing of old cars?

I would assume that any American V8 car would be in F-stock

What about a Slant six powered 3000 pound car?  170 and 225 cubic inches.

An old autoxer wants to get back into it and his daughter is very
interested as well.
but it will be a while before she is ready to take out the 5spd neon.
