I ran 225/45/16 Hoosiers on a 7" rim on the front of my 968 and did not
have any problems.  I did initially had some outside edge wear issues,
but it was due to me overdriving the car.  I got about 75 runs on the
first set & the second set looked like it would go to about 100 runs. 
Gary meridith actually ran 245 hoosiers on 7" rims on his 944S2!
