Atlanta Region SCCA & Peachstate PCA
Autocross School- Atlanta Motor Speedway
March 27, 1999
The first cooperative Autocross School between the Atlanta Region SCCA
and Peachstate PCA is designed to teach the beginning autocrosser the
fundamentals of car control. Drivers will be divided into 4 groups that
will be rotated between 4 school features designed to teach different
aspects of autocrossing:
1. Classroom session - Covers the basics of cornering theory, steering
wheel hand positions, slaloms and braking. This will also be a good time
to ask questions.
2. Slalom - Teaches the basics of how to drive a slalom
3. Skidpad - Drivers will learn how their car handles at the limits of
adhesion
4. Oval - Teaches threshold braking and how to "apex" a corner
Students need to have:
· Current driver's license
· $35 entry fee
· a helmet (Snell 85 or newer). A few loaner helmets are available
· a safe car that passes a safety inspection at the site (all loose items
must be removed from the car, battery secured, throttle return springs
and plenty of air in the tires)
· a seatbelt
· tires with plenty of tread (very important because of the amount of
time spent driving)
