Don't know where "around here" is. In Minnesota, I think you can still get
an HJC open-face with a current Snell sticker for about $80 at a couple big
motorcycle supply places. Unless you are in a formula car, this ought to be
adequate.

Probably get the medium. When you shake your head, your skid should stay
with the helmet. Hint: wear the helmet around the house for a while to
break it in and to get really used to having it on.
