Wink is a brand name. Wink makes a number of different kinds of mirrors.
When you are talking to us old-timers, though, a "wink mirror" is their
large multi-panel type used on the inside of closed car or across the front
of the cockpit of an open car. The panels are flat, but arranged in such a
way that you get a huge panorama of what's behind you without the "objects
in mirror are closer than they appear" effect of a convex mirror.
I had a five-panel wink mirror in my ice-race SAAB. Hmm. Wonder who wound
up with it in the shuffle when the team broke up.
