shaved vs unshaved

I am going to be buying my first set of R compound tires very soon and
would like some advise on whether I should get them shaved or not. This
will be my second season autoxing so I am not very experienced. I would
like the tires to last as long as possible without giving up much of
there maximum performance. I drive a DS Neon.
I haven't been subscribed to this list very long, so if this has been
brought up recently I am sorry for bringing it up again.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
