I don't claim to be an expert at D/E Mod, but there isn't anyone running D/E
Mod that has been doing it longer than I have. In the beginning there weren't
any minimum weights in Modified production class. In 1973 a Lotus Europa that
had the body burned off and the skin replaced, sorta, with aluminum, won. In
1974 an MGB with a 2 liter Pinto motor won. Dune buggies won in 75,76,78,79.
A mini Cooper won in 83, a Turner won in 85. There have been lots of
different winners, almost always it has been the best prepared, best driven
car that wins.
The object being, you have to understand the rules in the class you choose to
run, and then choose the correct weapon. D/E Mod minimum weights are
1000/1500 pounds, why would you start to build a 1000 pound race car with a
3000 pound donor car? You're going to end up with a 2200 pound car. That
won't work!
A Sprite weighs 1200 pounds. Fiat 850 weighs 1200 pounds. A Chevrolet Sprint
weighs 1100. (there are several of those in the junk yard) Wouldn't it be more
logical to start with one of those cars?
Have a nice day, unless you've already made other plans?
See you in Topeka.
Del Long D-MOD in 1999.
