It wasn't referenced in the article. However, since you asked, I called
the Saleen dealer in Washington State (Boone Ford) and asked the
Saleen salesperson there about the wheels. She said there is no
option for 17" wheels on the 99 Saleens. 18 and 19 are the choices.
Frankly, a bigger problem with Saleens is that no one in the parts
department knows anything about autocrossing. Apparently the fact
that Steve Saleen started out racing autocross was lost on the rest of
the company. So when you get a stock saleen, you want to detune
some of the road racing/Solo I oriented features into more autocross
friendly ones. The car would be better suited for autocross running
16x10 wheels from Complete Custom Wheel (or someone else) than
the 18 and 19 inch wheels, though of course that would put it into
Street Prepared.
So while I diverge this thread a bit...
Does anyone know of any successful Saleen drivers at the national
Solo II levels? Or any successful Kenny Brown, Steeda, Griggs or
Roush prepped Mustangs at that level.
