Mike,
It is not a question of "can't". It is a question of whether the relatively
inexperienced do it your self builder (aka you or me) will build an engine
as powerful or reliable as the pro will.
FYI, the engine that powered my 1986 ASP winning Lotus Europa had the
machine work done by a pro. I did the assembly. Previously my only
experience was helping an inexperienced friend assemble two Datsun engines.
I decided that for the FF that a pro engine would be a better investment.
