You guys just don't get it, do you?
If the rule were written as proposed, people could get creative
and it WOULDN'T BE CHEATING. The rules would allow any gearbox with
four forward speeds, and no reverse, no questions. No cheating
involved.
Yes, people could (and probably would) just remove the reverse
idler. But why do you assume it would stop there?
If that's all you want to allow, write the rule that allows removing
the reverse idler, not a rule that allows any gearbox.
CM is also populated by gentlemen -- we follow the rules. And we don't
consider it unreasonable for competitors to do whatever they want
within them; we just want rules that don't allow too much, and we don't
see any reason to open up this allowance for CM. I really wish I
could understand why this bothers people so much!
