What most do is take your standard shaft, with the splined yoke end you
should have gotten with your transmission, to a drive-line specialist,
and have it rebuilt, cut down. and balanced, with the new splined yoke
installed. This should cost less than $150 US and leaves you with the
equivalent of a new drive shaft, rather than a second-hand MG shaft that
may need rebuilding anyway. Here are the actual measurements from Jan
Servaites:
"Ron, I just measured 2 OD shafts and I measure 29.5" from center of yoke
to the opposite yoke center. As a reference check, a non-OD measures
32.25"
