Bill,

I am currently performing a rotisserie restoration on my 1974 Jensen Healey.
The car had undercoating applied which I wanted to remove. Several people
recommended I use paint thinner and a scraper. I tried this and found it to
be very effective in removing the undercoating. In my case I found a 1/2
inch wood chisel worked best as a scraper. It is plenty strong and can get
into small areas. Wal-Mart had the cheapest paint thinner at a $1.00 a
gallon. I also purchased a spray bottle and labeled it thinner and picked up
some cheap paint brushes. Pour some paint thinner into your spray bottle and
only work on small areas at a time. Spray an area liberally with thinner and
use your brush to work it back and force into the undercoating. The
undercoating will eventually soak up the thinner and become pliable. Once
you think the undercoating is soft enough take your scraper and begin
scraping off the undercoating. You will need to apply more thinner with the
spray bottle but you should find this easy to work with and easy to clean
up. I wore latex gloves while I worked and it helped keep my hands a little
cleaner, but I would still keep plenty of those blue paper mechanics towels
around with some hand cleaner. As they all say, It worked for me.
