Hi Gang i don't know why but this old story came to mind yesterday so
I thought I would let you all hear it.
A couple of years back I had just rebuilt the master and slave
cylinders on my alpine and I decided to take it for a spin to see if
everything was okay.
there's a light house near hear that has a neat access road long and
narrow so I decided to take that road and run through the gears to
check the clutch out. Well I didn't get to far up the road and while
I was changing gears I hit a bump in the road and the clutch started
to act funny and then didn't work at all. It was disengaged and I
could't get it to work. So I pulled off the road as best I could and
looked underneath the car. I guess when I had reinstalled the slave
cylinder I put it on the wrong way, to far back behind the
bellhousing ear instead of infront like it's supposed to be, so the
slave cyl. rod popped out and was cocked at an angle in the bore
effectively holding the clutch desingaged. Major Bummer. I didn't
have a jack with me and no tools except a pair of pliars. Well some
nice folks came by and gave me a lift to a phone but I could't get
anyone to come out to help , so I walked back to the car and
preceeded to look around for something to help work on that clutch
rod. Then I got the idea to use the hood prop rod. Ha ha no kidding
I took it off with the pliars and then reached under the car with the
rod and i pushed on the clutch rod a couple of times and it snapped
back in. Wow I was happy, Of course I didn't dare try and use the
clutch again after that and drove home with it in first gear and
didn't shift but I made it. Strange but true.
Regards
Armand
