#1 If you have a propper size fan one should do. I have had luck with a single

inch shrouded fan. I would not put the fan in front as a "pusher", the fan will
move
more air through the core on the engine side with a propper shroud. It could
also
pretty well from the front too with a propper shroud, but that reduces the
frontal
area of the radiator and would not cool as well at speed.
#2, Good Idea, the 1725 engine oil temp seems to run much hotter and is critical
to keeping the engine cool. The stock SV oil cooler does not do a very good
job
of cooling since the area of the fins is not very high. I reccommend using an
MG
13 row cooler, these work well, and I think the fittings are the same as the
1725.
#3 Huh?
Never seen a 120 or 130.
160 to 180 should be fine year round for a fair weather car.
Remember that the temp rating on a thermostat is the temperature that it opens
as. Assumming all thermostats open the same amount and ahve the same flow area,
a 160 degree thermo will not cool better than the 180 degree one if the temp
wont drop
below 200 when standing still.

Hello everyone,
Well, after a replacing the head gasket - my SV 66 is still running a
bit warm. I went to a Shell Oil fast lube place here and the guys
working there had a few suggestions - so, I thought I should run them by
the list.
#1 They said I should be running with two fans. I had the original
fan removed when the electric fan was installed forward of the radiator.
Which, by the way, happened about the same time as my overheating
problems began. Is there any drawback to having two fans? Would they be
working against each other?
#2 They said I should go to a Uhaul or car parts store and buy a
transmission cooler and use it as an oil cooler as the original has been
disconnected by PO - a leak I imagine. Where should the new cooler be
placed? I have some room - no power brake servo. Should I remove the
original oil cooler?
#3 Finally, they suggested that, during the summer months, I should be
running with a 120 or 130 thermostat instead of the 160 I now have
installed.
They promised that if all these things were done, the 1725 should run
cool as a cucumber. These guys are hot rod heads - and seemed very
knowledgeable. Any feedback on these topics would be appreciated greatly.
