Paul,

I would go along with that. Lucas may have been a tad 'agricultural' in 
design those days, but you're right they did go on for ever.

I'm pretty sure that the wiper motor on my SIII is the original from 1963, so 
I guess that is not too bad.

On the plus side, Lucas did eventually catch up. I noticed to my surprise, 
while searching for my starter on the BMW last weekend that there is an 
impressive array of Lucas parts in there.
