By all this do you guys mean that the engine has to be used on front
wheel drive? I've seen a few FWD engines that seemed small enough to fit
in an Alpine engine bay, if turned sideways of course. Can't the FWD
transmission be swapped out for a more traditional unit? Or am I
thinking in too basic terms?

Just mount the new engine in the trunk, then you'd have all that room
