As far as I'm aware - here in the UK it will not lead to an MOT failure, the MOT is a test of the cars roadworthiness. Officially the change in the engine number and the vehicles engine capacity should be recorded on the Registration Document (V5) and the Insurance Company shouldf be advised (they may wish to review the premium if the engine size or performance rating has changed).
