My 1725 siezed up today. Knew the oil pressure was low (25-30) but didn't
think it was that bad.
F iretr uck.
Obviously, I have to pull the engine to assess how bad the damage is (ie, if
the crankshaft is twisted, etc) and get the engine rebuilt, rebored, etc. It's
the original engine, so part of me wants to keep it for the number match.
Part of me is seriously pissed at Lord Rootes, because I've put 460 miles on my
car ALL SUMMER because it's been off the road so much with issues.
Part of me wants to put a V6 in, but another part of me (the back-pocket part
of me) winces at the $$$ involved. Another part of me argues that it might be
worth spending the money on...
Another part of me wishes I could drop the rebuilt 302 in the garage in to the
Alpine with minimal effort, but I know it's just a pipe dream, despite having
all the Tiger parts to go with.
A friend of mine thinks I should get a Japanese 4-cyl with at least 140 hp (or
so) with very low mileage on it and install it, but I don't really know what
that would all entail.
Most of the mechanical jobs my father and I can do between the two of us.
(Thank God) - put trying to put a different engine (sans handy Kit) into the
car might be a bit too advanced. According the all the literature, teh 2.8L
swap is pretty simple. I've also heard of the 3.4L GM swap into MGBs, but I
doubt the kits would be able to mate it to the Alpine.
Any thoughts, advice? I really would like to know how much a conversion costs,
in Canada, if anyone has done one recently.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Cheers,
Ryan Lee
