You don't say what state you are in so I'm not sure what you can get away
with. Most states allow 7 characters on a personalized plate.
Is an 'antique' plate considered the same as a personalized plate?
If your limited to 6 characters, then something appropriate that an Alpine
owner would identify. I'm thinking:
"61 S 1" for 1961 series 1
"61SER1" for 1961 series 1
"1961S1" for 1961 series 1
"ALPINE"
"ROOTES"
I once had a personalized plate on my '77 Porsche 911S of "23152OT". This
would be a meaningless plate to anyone other than a 'west coast' Cop. (I'm a
Deputy Sheriff with the Washoe Co Sheriff's Office in Reno, NV, assigned to
the traffic section Major Accident Investigation Team). The "23152" is the
California Vehicle Code section for DUI and the "OT" stood for "overtime":
hence I could afford to drive a Porsche because of the overtime money I made
going to court on DUI arrests!
Check with your local DMV office to find out all your possibilities, and
good luck.
