I think Larry is on the right track.  I had an 1800 pound kit car which the
manufacturer recommended using 185-80-13 @ 17 psi.  Worked good, too.
Surprisingly, it handled better at the lower pressure than at the more
"conventional" pressures.  At higher PSI it wanted to bounce around all over
the road.  Run whatever works, and the temp guage will tell you what is
working.
