Soft top latches

Hey all-

Before I destroy my soft-top latches, is there a recommended method for
dismantling them for re-chroming? The pins look like they need a combination
of grinding and such for removal, but then how to reassemble becomes the
issue. Any insights appreciated.

Also, I hope to know soon if I have successfully rebuilt a SV heater control
valve. Tricky little bugger, that. If successful, I will attempt to document.
No more summer-warm-foot or under hood shut-off valve.
