Everyone,
I want to pass along some important information that has happened to me
recently regarding eBay. If any of you have old eBay accounts that aren't being
used anymore please read the following story.
I have recently been victim of a high dollar scam using an old eBay account
that I have not used in around two years. After getting married and moving I
created a new account that I still use today. I should have renamed my old
account, but I stupidly didn't. Anyhow, someone has hacked into the eBay data
base and gathered information on old accounts that have not shown activity in a
long period of time. This person(s) is selling high dollar items using stolen
account information and bidding against the items with other stolen account
information. I was just contacted by a friend that had once given me feed back
on eBay who was contacted by someone who lost over $3,000 on a high end video
recording device. Ebay has canceled my old account and more than likely tried
to contact me... without success. Obviously, my old eBay account had my old
home address and email address attached to it.
Ebay does not offer a method of deleting old accounts on it's site. You must
write to them to have them delete it for you. (Which is a real pain in the ass)
Be aware...EBAY IS NOT SECURE and if you have an old account that is no longer
in use... DELETE IT! I will be able to clean up this mess with my good name in
tact, but I'm not happy about having to do it. I just felt it was my place to
pass this information along to you guys... my friends... and hopefully save you
the embarrassment and inconvenience of what I'm going through.
Take this for what it's worth. - Ian
